Zooming in ‘The Peg’

Project Zoom rides the transit in every city we live in to do what we like to call the ‘transit test’.

Winnipeg Transit is pretty impressive and won the Canadian Urban Transit Association’s Exceptional Performance/Outstanding Achievement Award in 2010.  After zooming around on buses for the past few weeks, we can see why.

When's the next bus?

All transit buses now feature new state-of-the-art technology.  Some of the impressive features include: GPS based automated vehicle location, automated real-time schedule tracking and displays, and on-board security camera systems for safety.

It's warm inside!

Another exciting change is upgraded stops and stations with heated shelters at the busy stops!

The popular Diamond Lanes (reserved for buses and cyclists) cover approximately 30 km and cover 114 intersections.

Stage 1 of the Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor opens in April, 2012.  The city is expecting this to be a popular new way to zoom around town.  There’s 3.6 km of a separate high-speed right-of-way for buses and new rapid transit paths and stations.

There’s also FREE handy bus service on the “Downtown Spirit” to major destinations in the downtown core 7 days a week.

A free zoom around town for all

More information on all of the bus services this city offers is available on the Winnipeg Transit website:  www.winnipegtransit.com
