Our time in the ‘City of Champions’ has ended. We covered a lot during our stay. One of my favourite moments was attending a hockey game at the Rexall Centre and watching the Oilers break their five game losing streak against the Colorado Avalanche.
We also enjoyed watching Michael W. Smith perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Winspear. Dr. Francis G. Winspear donated $6 million to the construction of the facility that opened in 1997. This is the single largest private donation to a performing arts facility in Canadian history and the acoustics are phenomenal!
There were certainly many festive activities in Edmonton to take in – after all ‘tis the season to be jolly. CrossFit Lazarus had their combined one-year anniversary and Christmas party that included many delish treats and lots of laughter.
We met many residents of Edmonton and enjoyed several lively discussions with them learning more about life in this large metropolis.
Deputy Mayor Jane Batty shared her insight into her hometown’s past, present and plans for the future. This Edmontonian has represented her community for the past decade. There is a twinkle in her eye as she describes plans for the expansion of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system. After riding this neat people mover, I can see why this growing city is putting more tax dollars into its extension.
Jim and I appreciated a night out on the town with Steve and some amazing dancers. “Two-left-feet Jim” definitely needs some lessons to keep up with the way this group zoomed around the dance floor.
We certainly have tons of terrific memories from this fair city. Now it’s time to get zooming through the mountains and make our way to beautiful British Columbia for Christmas.
