“You must visit Munro’s Books and Murchie’s Tea and Coffee.”
We have heard this from anyone who lives in this city, or has visited it. So, we did.
Munro’s Books (www.munrobooks.com) opened in 1963 and it now resides in a beautiful neo-classical building designed for the Royal Bank in 1909. Upon entering this building, I found myself staring at the stunning coffered 24 ft. ceiling for a long time, before eventually perusing through the extensive selection of books available in this shop.
The owner-manager, Jim Munro, had the building completely restored and refurbished when he moved into these premises in 1984.
Once you have picked out your book, head next door to Murchie’s (www.murchies.com) for a cup of tea or coffee. Both are top notch!
This BC owned and operated store recently celebrated its centennial and received its own coat of arms. There are two commercial kitchens (Richmond and Victoria) that produce all of their gourmet condiments, preserves, and delish baked goods.
I must concur with the locals on their advice and say that both of these businesses are ‘must-see’s’ whether you are visiting, or living, in Victoria.
